Loss of Tmprss2 expression in prostate tumors of the transgenic autochthonous mouse model for prostate cancer (TRAMP) attenuated their metastatic capabilities. Although loss of Tmprss2 protease activity substantially attenuated metastasis, the localized tumors that arose in the absence of Tmprss2 were unexpectedly of substantially greater size.
